A Cartographic Analysis of Iraq's Road Accidents in 2022

Abstract

This study examines traffic accidents to identify the causes، factors، types، distributions، and locations across Iraqi urban roads and interprovincial highways. To do so، a set of accident-specific data، based on yearly statistics recorded at the relevant state traffic authorities، has been analyzed. The data analysis shows that the total traffic accidents that took place Iraq in 2022 amounted to 11،523 accidents. There are، however، variations among these accidents as to the frequency، type، reasons، location، and period. The study، finally، reaches several conclusions، suggests some commendations and remedies that can help reduce road accidents، finds that punishable laws can delimit such accidents، and proposes future research topics.
