تستكشف هذه الدراسة مفهوم هوية السايبورغ وتصوير الجسد المجزأ في رواية "فرانكشتاين في بغداد" (2013) لأحمد سعداوي، مُفسّرةً إياهما كاستعارتين مركزيتين تُعبّران عن الواقع المعاش للغزو الأمريكي للعراق عام 2003. وبالاستناد إلى نظرية السايبورغ لدونا هاراواي، تُحلّل الدراسة شخصية "الشسمة" ككائن مُركّب من بقايا ضحايا العنف، يجسّد وجوده هوية هجينة تُزعزع الثنائيات المتضادة كالإنسان/الآلة، والضحية/الجاني، والذات/الآخر. وبالتالي، لا يُعامل الجسد المجزأ للوحش كمجرد دليل على الدمار المادي، بل يُتناول كنص سياسي وأخلاقي يكشف تآكل القيم الأخلاقية والإنسانية وسط الصراع الطائفي والتفكك الاجتماعي. علاوة على ذلك، تجادل الدراسة بأن جثة الشسمة المتجزئة تعكس تفتت الهويات الفردية والجماعية، لتكون بمثابة مرآة رمزية لبغداد نفسها - فضاء حضري منقسم عاجز عن الحفاظ على شعور متماسك بالعدالة أو الانتماء أو المعنى في أعقاب عنف طويل الأمد.
