Abstract

Undoubtedly, the study of scientific characters is a great importance because of the influence in the field of their scientific specialization, and from this point of view, it represents the modernist and historian Alm al-Din al-Barzali (AH 739AD / 1338AD) one of the prominent scientific figures who lived in the Levant in the eighth century AH / 4th century AD. He had a great presence in the field of authorship and teaching. He also wrote many works, the most famous of which was his book (Al-Muqtafi) in history and translations, which he wanted to complete the history of his teacher Sheikh Abu Shama al-Maqdisi. The research was divided into an introduction and three sections. The first section deals with the biography of Al-Barzali, his name and ancestry, his birth, his upbringing, his scientific journeys, his old people, his disciples, and his death. As for the second section: it was devoted to reviewing the book (Al-Muqtafi) and explaining the motives for its writing, the content of the book, and the types of sources that Al-Barzali relied on in writing his history. It is useful to refer to the most prominent sources that have been benefited from in writing this research, in the forefront of which is: Al-Muqtafi’s book on the history of Abu Shama, and many primary sources and translated books have been referred to, including, but not limited to: The History of Islam by Al-Dhahabi, the History of Ibn Al-Jazari, and the book Al-Wafi with Deaths by Al-Safadi, the Beginning and the end by Ibn Kathir Al-Dimashqi, and the Student in the History of Schools by Al-Nuaimi
