The Nature of Aims Adopted by University Undergraduates Under Current Security Conditions

Abstract

Educational institutions are often recognized with the task of diagnosing the problems, difficulties, and challenges faced by university undergraduates and faculties. Setting goals is critical to guiding education and learning in a scientific, practical, and humane manner. Because this will cause students to overcome obstacles in a short time, and since goals are important in every human being's life, they have been fragmented and diversified. One of them is educational aims, university, attainment, and personality, and each of them has the means and tools to achieve them. All these goals are the right of students at the university to adopt them. But what is needed at this stage is to prioritize university objectives? It has been found that objectives develop abilities to serve the community, but in this turbulent security environment that the homeland is going through, Will the other objectives be presented on the personal goals or will the targets respond to the security circumstance of the compressor and rearrange the target according to this circumstance? This research, therefore, aims at identifying the sort of objectives adopted by third-year university undergraduates at the Faculty of Basic Education, University of Diyala, in the departments of psychological counseling, science, mathematics, and English Language, through the academic year 2018-2019. To do so, the researcher choose 400 undergraduates (m/f) and designed a multi-item questionnaire that has been applied to the subjects. After the processing of questionnaire responses, the study found that the subjects have experienced various local multi-level security concerns, challenges, difficulties, and conditions, and those subjects, accordingly, prioritized personal aims over other aims. The paper recommends that university professors and faculty members should pay attention to undergraduates’ concerns and that aim-addressing courses should be delivered to those undergraduates.
