The Sufi Doctrine of the Unity of Existence in the Writings of Extremist Sufis and Western Philosophers

The concept of the Unity of Existence addresses a matter related to God's relationship with the universe. In reality، the Unity of Existence is a philosophical doctrine stating that God is nature and the source of existence. Therefore، Ibn Arabi considers the Unity of Existence a fundamental truth of existence; God is the source of existence، and everything else is a manifestation or appearance of existence. Some modern studies indicate that some who are considered extremists may be symbolic or religious in nature، and their meaning encompasses absolute spiritual striving. For this reason، it has been stated that extremism، according to the Sufi perspective، is not limited to certain individuals، but rather manifests in behaviors that exceed the bounds of reason and religion. For Sufi philosophers، extremism means excess in the self، or what they call Through spiritual knowledge، or the claim of the unity of existence، some extremist Sufis have gone to extremes in venerating and sanctifying their sheikhs، considering their actions in this regard as absolute authority. They interpret religious texts in a way that abolishes legal boundaries، and then claim the ability to control the universe and creation. This is a type of exaggeration regarding the spiritual authority of the state.
