Spatial space in the poetry of Ibn Shahid al-Andalusi

Abstract

   The spatial environment is considered one of the fundamental elements in the poetry of Ibn Shahid al-Andalusi. He employs it to present his personal experiences, his suffering from separation and dispersion, as well as to highlight his nostalgia for homeland and loved ones. Its role is evident in shaping the artistic image, as the place transforms into a symbol bearing deep connotations that reflect the poet's psychological state and his interaction with social and political circumstances, especially amidst the upheavals and historical events that took place in al-Andalus. Through analyzing themes related to space in his poetry, it becomes clear that Ibn Shahid used the place not only as a geographical setting but also as a tool to express his emotions, internal struggles, and his profound connection to the place and time. Therefore, the spatial environment in his poetry is an active element that enriches the poetic text, enhances its human depth, expresses his personal experiences, and highlights the influence of historical circumstances on his literary experience.
