The phenomenon of middle school students' reluctance to pursue the humanities track from the perspective of Arabic language teachers (schools in Al-Suwaira district as a case study

Abstract

The preparatory stage is considered one of the most important stages of education, as it determines a student’s future in terms of whether they will pursue studies in the sciences or the humanities. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of preparatory-stage students choosing the science track, while their interest in the humanities track has declined. This study examined this issue from the perspective of Arabic language teachers in preparatory schools in the Sawira district of Wasit Governorate, using a questionnaire administered to a sample of Arabic language teachers teaching preparatory-level students in the Sawira district. The results indicate that the issue of preparatory school students’ reluctance to pursue the humanities track requires a comprehensive solution, including improving admission prospects at Iraqi universities for humanities track graduates and raising awareness among students and parents regarding the importance of studying the humanities track
