The Middle East Geopolitical Development in the Post-World War II Period: A Geographical Perspective

Abstract

       After the World War II, researchers disagreed on determining the geography of the Middle East owing to several political and global reasons and international, as well as emerging factors. The stigmatization of Middle East on this area and surrounding regions has sparked negative connotations, geographical dimensions on the region as a whole and on the Arab territories in particular. This paper, therefore, is concerned with this naming and characterization as well as the consequent effects. The "Middle East" carries various undertones having been designated by regional influences and super powers. Such characterization has been identical with the Arab world. This paper, thus, aims at showing how this stigma has caused instability in the Arab statehood and sparked ideological and national divide. It is, accordingly, highly necessary to analyze the causing factors to understand the current geoplolitically related practices of politics and geography in the postwar world.
