The Effect of Indefiniteness in the Signification of Quranic Aesthetic Strategies: A Rhetorical Study

Abstract

This paper investigates indefiniteness as a grammatical process with a special reference to selected Quranic verses. Indefiniteness is the process where a noun has a zero article. This is achieved by considering the rhetorical devices used in these verses. To do so, the paper selects several rhetorical and stylistic devices as a model of analysis and then has these devices applied to the Quranic verses under study. The verses carrying these rhetorical devices have been found to signify literal and figurative meanings and references. The analysis concludes that indefiniteness has been very influential in the creation of stylistic and rhetorical references, and such merging of words and meanings can signify different intentions to the addressees.
