يسعى الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب إلى تحقيق المصالح الوطنية للولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، من خلال استخدامه لاستراتيجية وأدوات القوة الصلبة في العراق لتحقيق العديد من منها الأهداف السياسية والامنية بهدف تثبيت وجوده العسكري في العراق بحجة محاربة الارهاب التكفيري والحد من النفوذ الايراني، وأيضا أهداف اقتصادية من خلال المحاولة على الوصول والسيطرة على الموارد النفطية لأن العراق يمتلك احتياطاً نفطياً كبيراً وضخماً على مستوى العالم
