Spatial analysis of the phenomenon of school dropout in primary schools in Kirkuk Governorate

Abstract

School dropout is the interruption of a student's educational progress before completing their studies due to absenteeism. This problem plagues the education sector، particularly at the primary level، and its prevalence has led to the emergence of semi-literate segments of society. It is a serious demographic and social problem with negative repercussions for both the individual and society، Education is a cornerstone of national progress and development، impacting various aspects of life. This research examines the geographical distribution and analysis of primary school dropout rates in Kirkuk Governorate in 2025، finding that the dropout rate in primary schools reached 1.6%، The study found of the total number of registered students. It also showed that the highest dropout rates at the administrative unit level were recorded in the districts of Sarkaran and Al-Abbasi، at (4.1%) and (3.7%) respectively، while the lowest rates were recorded in the center of Al-Hawija district at (0.9%) Of the total number of students studying، the phenomenon is high among females at a rate of (1.7%) compared to (1.4%) for males، and economic and social variables and factors related to the educational system and the school have the greatest role in influencing the phenomenon.
